University of Tennessee Medical Center Surgery Center
This project included the addition of 12 new surgery suites and the relocation of massive amounts of utility infrastructure while continuing to keep the hospital operational.
- 60,000 sq. ft. Addition and 2,000 sq. ft. Renovation
- The addition was constructed in one of the busiest services and employee corridors of the medical center.
Through a competitive selection process, Johnson & Galyon was chosen to be the Construction Manager/General Contractor for this 60,000 sq. ft. addition and 2,000 sq. ft. renovation at U.T. Medical Center. Johnson & Galyon was hired in the design development stage of preconstruction. Through value analysis, Johnson & Galyon was able to recommend 55 design changes, and 36 of these changes were accepted. These 36 changes produced $1.73 million in savings (13% of the original budget). Johnson & Galyon’s competitive bid process produced an additional $2.1 million in savings.
As with numerous other projects inside the medical center, we demonstrated our ability to minimize disruptions and inconveniences to patients and medical staff and complete the project seamlessly in high-traffic, congested work areas where anything less puts lives at risk.
