East Tennessee History Center
This project is Renovation and Addition to the historic 1800s Customs House in the East Tennessee History Center. The new structure is connected to the original building on three of the addition’s five levels. Two of the levels are below grade. The new addition provides a common main entrance for both facilities. Tennessee marble is used throughout the exterior facade to complement the existing building’s architecture.
The addition houses rare book collections and Knox County Archives and tripled the size of the East Tennessee History Society’s Museum. This project was awarded the 2006 Knoxville-Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission Excellence Award
